GENERAL QUESTIONS

Dorma Filtration is licensed by Health Canada to manufacture and distribute Class I medical devices, including 99PFE respirators, under Medical Device Establishment License 14230.

The N95 mask is NIOSH-certified and designed to offer respiratory protection for those who wear it. The “95” indicates its efficiency rate, which means that the respirator filters out 95% of non-oily particles in the air. It blocks very small particles (>0.3 microns), including droplets containing the coronavirus. This respirator is fluid-resistant and typically non-reusable. The “N” means “not resistant to oil”, and “95” is the efficiency rate.

Our respirators have a built-in filter made from electrostatic components with a filtration efficiency of at least 99% capable of capturing particles of 0.3 microns and larger. By contrast, a N95 mask has a particle filtration efficiency greater than or equal to 95%.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. We are in the approval process for NIOSH, but are currently licensed by Health Canada to manufacture and sell respirator masks, such as the Dorma 95 and Dorma 99.

DORMA 99 RESPIRATOR

The Dorma 99 respirator is intended to be worn by healthcare professionals to protect the wearer from transfer of microorganisms, body fluids, and particulate material.

The Dorma 99 respirator (or 99PFE respirator) is equivalent to an N99 mask. Both mask can filter up to 99% of the airborne particles. Just as the N95 mask, they are not efficient against oil-based pollutants, but they offer higher filter rate of particulate matter.

A 99PFE respirator is filtering facepiece respirator (FFR) designed to filter particles of 0.3 microns and larger. There are several types of filtering masks used as part of personal protective equipment (PPE) in health care, industrial or commercial environments.

Filter masks are designed to protect the user against inhalation of small particles or aerosols, including infectious particles. Respirators are categorized according to their level of filtration and are labeled “95PFE”, “99PFE” or “100PFE”. These are equivalent to N95, N99, and N100 masks, respectively.

“99PFE” indicates filtration of at least 99% of the particles. In the tests, the most penetrating particle size is in the range of 0.3 microns.

The entire respirator can be reprocessed and reused, including the built-in filter; one Dorma 99 can replace 50 disposable N95 masks, while providing improved filtration efficiency.

The answer is no. The Dorma 99 respirator has a built-in filter, which means that it does not need to be replaced in contrast to other masks on the market. To reuse your respirator, simply clean it according to the User Instructions.

The Dorma 99 is rated as a 99PFE-L3 surgical respirator (N99 equivalent). As a respirator, the Dorma 99 is intended to reduce wearer exposure to certain airborne particles*. It is designed to be fluid resistant to splash and splatter of blood☌ and other infectious material⍙.

IMPORTANT: The Dorma 99 Respirator helps protect against certain particulate contaminates but does not eliminate exposure to or the risk of contracting any disease or infection.

+ Tested against a 0.3 micron particle (mass median aerodynamic diameter) per U.S. 42 CFR 84.
☌ Meets ASTM Fluid Resistant Challenge F1862.
⍙ Meets ASTM Standard Test Method for Bacterial Filtration Efficiency F2101.

The cleaning protocols are one of the part of the Dorma 99 respirator. The User Instructions is available here.
Refer to the steps outlined for instructions on how to clean, and reuse the Dorma 99 respirator.

The pre-cleaning step has been simplified. From now on, it is no longer necessary to complete this step, just clean the Dorma 99 respirator according to the user instructions. To learn more about decontamination/sterilization protocols, please read the User Instructions.

IMPORTANT: To optimize the life of the Dorma 99 respirator, clean the Dorma 99 respirator immediately after use: a maximum time frame of 4-6 hours is recommended. DO NOT allow organic substances (blood, mucus, tissue, etc.) to dry on the Dorma 99 respirator or any of its components.

Currently, it is not possible to use the Steris to reprocess the Dorma 99 respirator. To be reused in healthcare facility, the Dorma 99 respirator is intended to be sterilized or decontaminated using high level decontamination procedures (Clean Flow Mini for healthcare or hydrogen peroxide (30%)). To learn more about decontamination/sterilization protocols, please read the User Instructions.
